Attracting Hummingbirds
Hummingbirds get much of their nourishment from flower nectar and are often attracted to tubular flowers and the color red. Other factors such as supplemental food sources, a water supply such as a fountain or water spray, plenty of sunlight, allowing open space for flight, dense planting for nesting or shelter, and an absence of insecticide will promote attraction.
With these factors in mind, we recommend the following plants:
- Agastache (Hyssop)
- Alcea (Hollyhock)
- Aquilegia (Columbine)
- Asclepias (Butterflyweed)
