Secrets to Creating a Garden-Inspired Flower Arrangement

By Susanne Kane

Fresh floral arrangements often have a style all their own, but if you want to mimic the look of a garden, that's certainly possible and a fun floral arranging challenge! Follow these tips to create a garden-inspired floral arrangement...

Think in Layers

In the garden, we layer low, medium, and tall plants knowing that even the same variety won't always grow at equal speed or height with all flowers facing the same way. That holds true for floral arrangements too.

Maintain Interest

As a designer, we try to create interest at every level. From the 'green trick' dianthus that serves as the "grass" to the leggy delphinium that reaches toward the "sun", something should capture your attention on every plane.

Look For Inspiration

As you try to create your own garden-style floral arrangement, think of some of your favorite gardens. Pay special attention to the grass and groundcover blossoms that stay low to the ground, the mid-level blooms that tend to be larger and fuller and the tall, long blossoms that stretch out, like larkspur or butterfly bush.

Estabrook's can provide you with the plants and flowers and the creation is up to you! Or if you're looking for something a little less DIY, our floral designers can create a garden-inspired arrangement just for you.
